Actor Kamal Haasan is quite not happy with the GST rates of 28% on films being made in India. While speaking in an event, when asked about GST rates, he said that the levy of 28% on regional films is quite high which should be reduced to save Tamil film industry. He further added that we are still far behind when it comes to single person income and charging tax on par with Hollywood films will collapse the industry.
He is not the only one who is against the GST rates, but many actors have made remarks as well. Some important delegates of Tamil Film industry met TN CM Eddapadi K Palaniswami today in this regard.
Responding to Kamal’s remark, Finance Minister Arun Jaitely tweeted, “Using the media as propaganda to pressurize the government is not going to work” in the early hours of the day. Responding to Arun Jaitley’s tweet, Kamal wrote on Twitter, “Not pressurising. It’s a plea & SOS from regional cinema to our FM We fear it will collapse. We request the council to do all to save it.”
